Health Spa

A stay at a spa can be a truly relaxing experience, provided you go for the relaxation and therapy and not for the status, one-upmanship, or competition. That’s why choosing the right spa for you is the most important part of your whole experience. Are you truly looking for a health spa? Would you prefer a Spartan boot camp or a more strolls-and-belly dance kind of place? Is the cuisine important or are you happy with twigs and seeds? There are literally spas for all tastes and most pocketbooks. Perhaps you’re looking for a super-luxurious beauty spa complete with boutique. If you’re really serious, maybe you should go to a health spa to get in shape before you go to the beauty spa to show off. Just kidding.

If a couple of weeks at a destination spa is out of the question, you might consider day spas. You can schedule a few hours of pampered bliss as often as you can afford to. Day spas are popping up all over and women who go in frazzled come out mellow. If a destination spa is in a populated area, they often have day spa features. Check and see.

You actually have the most important attribute of any spa right in your own home—hot water. At a spa it might be scented, or effervescent or have minerals in it but the long and short of it is, it’s hot water. It’s also one of the greatest luxuries the in the world. It’s easy and quite inexpensive to have a scented and/or mineralized bath at home. If you want bubbles in the water you’ll have to invest in a Jacuzzi-type tub. If you’re too rushed in the morning to fully appreciate the hot water, consider changing your schedule around and bathe in the evening, either to de-stress after your commute (while your dinner is in the oven) or to relax before bedtime. Your home-spa experience should also involve at least stretching your muscles and a little aromatherapy. Some huge, fluffy towels and soft music can make it an even more sensual treat. By all means, light candles if they make you feel self-indulgent. See? You don’t have to have megabucks to treat yourself to a spa experience.

By the way, some spas schedule men’s groups, or couples, weekends, too. Self-indulgence is an easily acquired taste, even for real macho types!
